Corrections to a notation

This is the most useful mail we get. If a song on this site does not match the version you know, tell us which page and which line — and if you can name a published source that prints it your way, better still. Every melody here was checked against multiple published notations before it shipped (how that works), but published sources disagree, and regional variants are real. Several pages read the way they do because a reader pointed at a printed notation we had not seen.

Requesting a song

Say which song and, if you can, link to any notation of it you have found. Songs still in copyright — film songs especially — will not be transcribed here, so those requests cannot be filled.

Deleting a recording or an account

Saved recordings can be deleted yourself from the "My Recordings" dialog on the main page, and all of them expire automatically after 15 days. To delete an account and everything attached to it, email the address above from the account's address and it will be handled within 30 days.

Takedown and copyright

To report content you believe infringes a copyright, email the address above with the page URL and a description of the work. Notation believed to be under copyright is removed while it is being checked, not after.

Bugs

Include the browser and device — most harmonium bugs are audio-related and audio behaves differently on iOS Safari than anywhere else. If a key sounds wrong or a recording will not save, say which one.

What this inbox cannot help with

Some things get asked often enough to answer here. Tuning or repairing a physical harmonium — reed work, bellows leaks, sticking keys — needs someone who can hold the instrument, and no useful answer can be given by email. Finding a teacher is likewise outside what one inbox can do; a local music school or a temple's kirtan group will know who teaches nearby, and both are better placed than a website. Transcribing a film song will be declined however the request is worded, because melodies still in copyright are not published here at all.

Requests to buy links, place a guest post, add a sponsored mention, or insert an affiliate link are declined without reply. Nothing on this site is paid placement and that is not going to change.

What happens after you write

Mail is read in the order it arrives, by one person, alongside a day job. A reply usually takes a few days and occasionally longer. Two kinds of message jump the queue: a copyright takedown, and a report that a published notation is wrong. The second one is genuinely valuable — a wrong note in a song that a family has sung for generations is the worst thing this site can get wrong, and it is worth interrupting other work to fix.

If a correction is accepted, the page changes and the reasoning is recorded alongside the melody in the site's source, so the next person to look at that song can see which published sources were compared and where they disagreed. Corrections are not silently applied.
